This picture is not a perfect analogy, but it resembles the Sea of Galilee, where Jesus addressed to multitudes from a boat and spoke many parables to them (Matthew 13). A profound statement to the question by His disciples as to why He spoke to them in parables is v.11 where He said to them, “To you it has been granted to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it has not been granted.” A profound statement indeed. What that means to us is this: We, as believers and His followers, are also His disciples – so that statement also pertains to us. Through the reading of His word, contemplation, reflection, and prayer – we can know those mysteries. For He has granted to us everything pertaining to life and godliness (2 Peter 1:3), and He has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ (Ephesians 1:3). (Please read all Scripture citations in context; and all Scripture is from the NASB, unless otherwise stated).
